Value and Color

You have heard it many times - Value does all the work, color gets all the credit. It can be challenging to get the values correct when distracted by color. In this video we start with a value study and overlay color. Viola! The values are correct. This is a trick the old masters used. The video is up now at www.showcaseartcenter.com. Next week we will work in person at our regular class times:

  • 10:00 AM to noon Tuesday and Wednesday for independent painting (your own projects and media)

  • 1:30-3:30 PM for step-by-step "Value and Color"

We may even have time next week for a quick Valentine making project. The world needs more love and we are just the group to paint it!

I enjoyed reading about how focusing on value first can make colors look more balanced and natural in artwork. During my early painting practice, I often felt confused explaining techniques in assignments, so I used English Class Help to organise my thoughts better. This method of layering learning step by step feels very practical. It reminds me that mastering basics slowly builds stronger creative skills over time.

I really enjoyed your post on value and color — such a thoughtful exploration of art! For those who love caring for their wellbeing, a Facial Lymphatic Drainage Massage can be a wonderful way to relax, reduce tension, and refresh both body and mind.
