Valuing Big Shapes

A good way to start a painting is by recognizing the shapes within the scene. After outlining the shapes, then identify the value (light medium dark) of each shape. Then the detail can be added - or left off. The video is up now for the above scene on the video page of www.ShowcaseArtCenter.com. Find your own scene and try this exercise again. Training the eye to identify shape and value will improve our paintings. We will paint this and some other scenes next week in class. Classes at Showcase are as follows:
10:00 AM to noon Tuesday and Wednesday for group painting individual projects
1:30-3:30 PM Tuesday and Wednesday for step-by-step Valuing Big Shapes
See you next month!
PS: "A Brush With Nature" opening reception is Friday February 6 at the Tointon Gallery, 651 10th Avenue, Greeley, CO from 5:00-7:00PM. It is a member show for the Greeley Art Association. More information at www.greeleyart.org
