

Lake Lighthouse
A lighthouse is a great vertical counterbalance to a horizontal landscape. This makes an "L" shaped composition. I took a photo at Lake Dillon last summer. It was a nice photo, but a bit bland. I show you how to spice up a photo by changing the color of the sky, planting flowers in the foreground and repeating those colors in some boats and figures to give the scene more life. Carolina Chickadee
"Birds and flowers" is our theme for May. I was in the Ozarks last week. It was a treat to see many birds that we do not see in the west. One was a Carolina Chickadee. He posed for a great reference shot. In this video (just released on www.showcaseartcenter.com) I paint the loose background first and the bird second. Happy spring! Classes at Showcase will have a change over the next couple weeks. I am going to the Plein Air Convention in the Ozarks. It is exciting that I get to demo on the exposition hall stage Sunday. While I am gone, you should have something special to look forward to as well.
