Tell Your Story
Take a four- and one-half minute tour of my house on the video class page of www.showcaseartcenter.com. I tell you a couple stories about my life. Then I ask you to think about your story. What kitchen items bring back memories of family gatherings? Choose 1, 3, or 5 items and arrange them in a still life. Play with light to find appealing shadows. Take a photo with your phone. In class we will continue to design and develop your composition. The goal is to help you tell your story in your art. This will be an interesting series for the month of November. You will also create an original painting that you can show, sell or display. Live classes coming up are:

Turning a few kitchen objects into a still life is a lovely prompt - the stories around objects are far easier to tell than a blank 'tell us about yourself'. If you want to take it further, those same objects make a natural storyboard: give each one a frame, then let a short clip carry the memory. That is the workflow I have been using Reference to Video for - you feed it image references and it keeps the objects, their placement and the light consistent from shot to shot, so a small series reads as one piece rather than unrelated photos.

This really resonates. I remember staring at a blank document for hours, completely stuck on how to even structure my argument for one essay.
