Petroglyphs on Gesso

Never throw away a "lost" watercolor again! I will show you how to salvage watercolor paper with gesso. After applying gesso (a plaster/water mixture used to cover canvas before painting) to watercolor paper, you will have a pristene white surface that is absorbant and liftable. The video is up now at www.showcaseartcenter.com showing how I got this petroglyphs detail by lifting the abstract background paint. If you come to class for the afternoon step-by-step next week, I will give you the already prepared paper to try. Bring your watercolor paints and brushes. Classes next week will be:

  • 10:00-noon Tuesday and Wednesday for independent painting

  • 1:30-3:30 PM Tuesday and Wednesday for Step-by-step Petroglyphs on Gesso

We discovered these petroglyphs on a recent travel through Bryce Canyon National Park. It was a real treat to see ancient art carved into the rocks. Do you suppose ancient artists had as much fun creating this as we will?
